The Festival of British Archaeology could not take place without the fantastic support and hard work of all the heritage organisations and volunteers who organise and run events, and help make it such a memorable, enjoyable and informative annual event for people throughout the UK.

Salisbury Museum NAW event 2008 Croome Park Loo excavation 2008 Events are organised by hundreds of groups involved with the historic environment, from local village interest societies, through to large regional and national bodies, such as National Park authorities and the National Trust. Other organisers include universities, archaeological and historical societies, independent heritage sites, archaeological units, local councils, museums, countryside parks, churches and visitor attractions.

Funding

The Festival is principally funded by English Heritage but is also financially supported by the British Academy, Cadw and through advertising revenue.

English Heritage exists to protect and promote England’s spectacular historic environment and ensure that its past is researched and understood. English Heritage

English Heritage works in partnership with the central government departments, local authorities, voluntary bodies and the private sector to:

  • Conserve and enhance the historic environment;
  • Broaden public access to the heritage;
  • Increase people’s understanding of the past.

The British Academy, established by Royal Charter in 1902, champions and supports the humanities and social sciences. It aims to inspire, recognise and support excellence and high achievement across the UK and internationally.

Cadw Cadw is the historic environment service of the Welsh Assembly Government. It aims to protect the historic environment of Wales by working with partners and private owners. Cadw wants people to enjoy it, to learn from it, to preserve it for our descendants, and to share it with others.
