600th Event Registered for the Festival!

A huge milestone has been reached, with the 600th registered for the Festival of British Archaeology this summer! This is a tremendous achievement for the event which has successfully undergone a re-branding in 2009 to become a two week-long celebration of archaeology, having grown from National Archaeology Days and National Archaeology Week over the past 20 years.

The Festival has taken off in 2009, thanks to the wonderful support of heritage bodies, organisations and societies, who are organising events across the UK for this archaeological extravaganza, taking place between Saturday 18 July and Sunday 2 August.

Churches Conservation Trust logoThe Churches Conservation Trust, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary, registered the 600th event, which will be an archaeological finds identification day with the Brighton and Hove Archaeological Society in Brighton, on the first day of the Festival, Saturday 18 July.

The Festival of British Archaeology (and its predecessor National Archaeology Week), has seen unprecedented growth over the last few years and is now recognised as an important annual cultural heritage celebration. In just the last two years the number of events taking place as part of the Festival has risen 40%.

It is hoped that with the increase in events taking place in 2009, even more people will have the opportunity to take part, to visit a new site or museum for the first time or to get ‘hands-on’ with archaeology.
