Mummifying Oranges! YAC and CBA at the Festival of History
Join the Young Archaeologists’ Club (YAC) as they celebrate the Festival fo British Archaeology at the Festival of History this year! Come and visit us in the YAC marquee where you can find out about all things Egyptian.
The Festival of History takes place on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th July at Kelmarsh Hall in Northamptonshire and is organised by English Heritage. It is described as ‘the ultimate historical adventure’. There will be loads to see and do, with over 50 different shows each day.
YAC will have lots of activities for children to have a go at:
- Have a go at mummifying your own orange to take home!
- Try writing with an Egyptian reed pen!
- Make your own Egyptian board games!
- Learn how to write like an Egyptian!
The CBA will also be attending the Festival of History to promote the Festival of British Archaeology and will be encouraging people to pursue their interests in archaeology and letting them know how they can get more involved.
There will be a book stall where you can pick up the latest books such as the ‘must-have’ guide to Human Remains in Archaeology and the fascinating Europe’s Lost World: the rediscovery of Doggerland, at special discount prices.
Special offers will be available when people subscribe to British Archaeology magazine or join the CBA at the CBA stand.
Talk to our Community Archaeology Support Officer, who can tell you more about how to get involved with your local archaeology, and have a go at guessing the mystery objects.
The Festival of History has plenty of entertainment to keep the whole family entertained!
- Experience over 2,000 years of history!
- Watch over 1,000 re-enactors bring the past to life!
- Hear the roar of vintage planes as they fly overhead!
- See the clash of swords as knights engage in battle!
We look forward to seeing you at the Festival of History on 25th and 26th July. For more information, including advice on how to get to Kelmarsh hall, visit the Festival of History website.
